A new year, a new look for Charlestown

From The Leader

If you’ve been on the square at all in the last year, you have surely noticed change underway. Little by little, the Extreme City Makeover, crept across the square and just beyond its borders, bringing color and life to downtown Charlestown.
The Extreme City Makeover concept was the brainchild of Charlestown Beautification Committee (CBC) member Dixie Busby, who approached the CBC with an idea for a rebirth. After sharing the idea with her creative friend, Deb Wyman, they approached Charlestown Mayor Bob Hall nearly one year ago with the concept and a co‑created book of drawings that spoke of possibilities of what could be.

Pirates Fall in Sectional Final, But Finish with Class
Sunday, 06 March 2011
From http://www.charlestownpiratepride.com/
March 5, 2011

The Pirate Basketball Team's outstanding season came to an end Saturday night with a 49-40 defeat to Corydon in the Sectional Championship game.  The Pirates finish the end with an impressive record of 18 wins and 5 loses, and a Boys Basketball Mid-Southern Conference Championship.  Even while the game slipped away at the end, Pirate Nation is proud of the class our program displayed.  The Pirates were led in scoring Saturday night by Seniors Kyle Hayes and Anthony Lloyd, who finished with 10 and 9 points respectively.  The Pirate Seniors were collectively named the Tumbletown Players of the Game by Pirate Pride Sports Broadcasting.  Thanks to Coach Smith, his coaching staff and players for providing Pirate Nation a very memorable boys basketball season; especially the outstanding group of Seniors.

Karen Wilson (CHS '75) Performing at Actor's Theatre
Monday, 05 April 2010

Karen WilsonThe Class of 1975 is very proud of their classmate, Karen Wilson. After graduating, Karen left Charlestown for New York to pursue a career in Broadcasting where she worked for CBS Television. Karen later switched to acting and performed in local theaters in New York City.

Karen will be performing in "Doubt", a local production, at Actor's Theatre in Louisville. The theme of "Doubt" is that a nun suspects a priest of having a relationship with an altar boy. Karen plays the part of Mrs. Muller, the mother of the altar boy. Sister Aloysius confronts Father Flynn after the boy's teacher, Sister James, a young nun, suspects inapropriate behavior between Father Flynn and the boy. A wrenching and dramatic show, "Doubt" may possibly shed light on a very controversial subject matter.

Some of Karen's classmates will attend the Friday, April 23rd performance at 7:30pm to show their support.  They invite other classmates - or other CHS Alumni to join them.
